Lola Jessika
Los Angeles, CA

“Family is that feeling when you close your eyes at night and you exhale. It’s that feeling of comfort and knowing, ‘No matter what, somebody has my back and I’m supported and loved,’” Lola Jessika said when reflecting on the need for equality for all people and all families, including LGBTQ families.

As a bisexual woman and immigrant from Haiti, it’s important to Lola that her children understand that all people should be respected and accepted, and that’s really the root of her passion for LGBTQ equality and the need for full nondiscrimination protections nationwide.  “It felt so good knowing that I can raise my children in a household where they can be as free and open as they want, and they know that mommy likes boys and girls, and that’s okay and it’s whatever your heart tells you,” she said.
